You Drink & Drive. YOU LOSE !!

The Jackson Police Department received a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division for participation in the YOU DRINK & DRIVE. YOU LOSE CAMPAIGN.  This Campaign is to stop people from driving impaired on our city streets and highways.  Enforcement efforts will be increased March 12 – 14th and will focus on reducing deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers.

It’s never worth the risk to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Whether it’s your driver’s license, your money or your life – YOU DRINK & DRIVE. YOU LOSE.

Consider some of the consequences if you are caught driving while intoxicated:

Ø  1st Conviction or 1st Conviction in over 5 years, your driver’s license will be suspended for 30 days followed by a 60 suspension if a hardship license is not obtained.  Plus there will also be fines imposes in the court.

Ø  2nd Conviction will result in a $1,000.00 fine, a year long revocation of your driver’s license, and up to a year in jail.  You will also be required to install an ignition interlock system on your vehicle, preventing your vehicle from starting when you have alcohol on your breath as well as fines imposed by the courts.

Ø  3rd and subsequent Convictions, which is a felony, you can be penalized with up to a $5,000.00 fine, 10 year driver’s license denial, and up to 7 years in jail.

Ø  If you cause a fatal crash while under the influence you can be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony resulting in up to 7 years in jail, a fine up to $5,000.00 or both.

Ø  Insurance Coverage will be difficult to find and if you do the rates will be significantly higher.
